Whonnock Lake IPA is a classic hop-forward beer for customers who want more flavour, more aroma, and a stronger bitter finish than a pale ale or lager. It is built around the familiar citrus, pine, and resin character that makes North American IPAs so satisfying, while still having enough malt structure to keep everything balanced.

The grain bill is about 80% 2-Row, which gives the beer a clean and reliable base. 2-Row keeps the malt profile crisp and straightforward, allowing the hops to take the lead without the beer feeling too heavy.

Maris Otter makes up about 15% of the grain bill and adds more depth than 2-Row alone. It brings a soft biscuit and lightly toasted character, helping the beer feel fuller and more complete. In an IPA, that extra malt character matters because it gives the hops something solid to balance against.

Crystal Medium makes up the remaining 5%, adding a touch of caramel, some colour, and a little sweetness to help round out the bitterness. It does not make the beer sweet, but it helps smooth the edges and gives the IPA a more satisfying finish.

The hops are Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook, a classic combination for this style. Cascade brings grapefruit and bright citrus notes. Centennial adds more citrus, floral character, and a slightly resinous edge. Chinook brings pine, spice, and a firm bitterness that gives the beer its IPA backbone. Together, they create a bold but familiar hop profile with plenty of aroma and a clean, bitter finish.

The name connects this beer to Whonnock Lake, a quiet local spot surrounded by forest and well known in the Maple Ridge area. That local connection suits the beer nicely. Whonnock Lake IPA has a bit of that West Coast outdoor feel: fresh, bold, and easy to picture after time outside, with dinner, or at home when you want something with more personality.

This beer pairs well with burgers, pizza, tacos, barbecue, spicy food, sharp cheddar, and salty snacks. It has enough bitterness to cut through richer foods, while the citrus hop character works especially well with anything grilled, spicy, or savoury.

Whonnock Lake IPA is a great choice if you like beers with more punch and character. It is not as light or neutral as a lager, and it is more assertive than a pale ale, but it still stays balanced enough to enjoy regularly. If you want to make a batch that brings classic IPA flavour home, this is an easy one to recommend.
